Death of Quicktime?
Tom Green, the man of video, has a great read? called “The Rise of Flash Video - Part 1“? about how far Flash Video has come, and why the big dogs (Quicktime, WMV, Real Player) are having trouble keeping up. I found this off my friend Scott Fegette’s blog (thanks, Scott!).
I agree with much of what he said… but….
Being the ‘up to date techie’, I tend to upgrade everything I have, including Windows Media Player, so I didn’t encounter any of the barriers he demonstrated. I am also waiting on a standalone FLV player like Quicktime, WMV and Real Player, since if you emailed an FLV to a friend, they’re going to have a heck of a time trying to watch it without a custom tool or a work around that is not mass-distributed. We have quite a ways to go, so I wouldn’t say it’s the death of any of these players, but they are definitely showing major signs of sickness!

Practice, lots of practice. Kidding… well, sort of… I was invited by Adobe to be a part of the Community Expert program after writing my book, actively participating in my local user group, maintaining an active blog and writing lots of Adobe-related articles. There’s more information here:
